Guild Wars 2 is the best game to come out since the original EverQuest. The game play is amazing, the crafting is a lot of fun and the PvP is some of the best I’ve ever seen.
First lets talk about the launch. Out of all the MMO launches that I have seen and I have seen a ton in the last 14 years of online gaming, this one was by far the smoothest. Yes GW2 had some issues and some bugs and still does have some things that are not working. However the condition of the game at launch was amazing. Unlike some other games that I have been excited for over the last few years. Vanguard: saga of heroes would be a perfect example. That was a game that had a lot of potential and tons of amazing features but rather then release it when it was ready they rushed the release and it was a total flop. Guild Wars 2 took a long time to develop. I believe I read that it was 7 years in the making. They took there time and released an awesome product that was ready to play right from the get go despite some of the minor issues.
GW2 sold over a million pre-order copies and have over 400 thousand players during their 3 day early access weekend. I think they may have under estimated the amount of people who were going to be flooding into their servers. Even with the over population I still feel the launch went way better then I have seen with past games.
There is no game that does leveling better then GW2. Most of the time leveling works like this in MMO’s. Grab a quest, run around and kill stuff, turn quest in and repeat the process. GW2 is not like this at all. Yes you can quest and grind exp if you like but that’s not the best method. In GW2 you get exp for everything that you achieve. There are daily and monthly quest as an example. You can do world events ( which are freaking awesome by the way ) , you can craft and gather to level up. Yes that’s correct. You actually get better experience for gathering and crafting then you do for grinding. You get great exp for discovering things as well. You can also get experience from doing World vrs World PvP. The ways that you can level up are endless. Good luck running out of things to do. It’s not going to happen.
A few things that are aggravating
Now even though I believe this is the best game to come out since EverQuest over a decade ago, there are still a few things I don’t like. I’m really not a fan of the overflow maps. I understand why they need them and I’m ok with it but I does annoy me. When my good friend and I log into the game I hate having to wait for us to end up on the same map or overflow before we can group together. This is an issue that is being worked on and I’m confident they will have this little annoyance corrected promptly.
I also didn’t like that the trading post hasn’t been live. This is not a big deal as far as I’m concerned but annoying none the less. I have just recently read that they fixed this issues so I’m looking forward to checking it out.
I can’t really speak to crafting at the moment. I have only done a little bit. I personally picked up tailoring and jewelry making. I will say that I do love the system so far and like I said already, it’s really awesome to get experience from just gathering and crafting. I also love how you can instantly put crafting mats into a special bank area for crafting materials from your bag inventory. This really helps prevent having your bags overflowing with crafting junk and slowing down your progress because your always having to go to town and sell.
Is Guild Wars 2 the new World of Warcraft?
I’ve been wondering for years if a game would ever come out that would finally rival blizzards giant success World of Warcraft. I do believe that GW2 is that game we have been waiting for. GW2 is better in every way and has a huge population of people who can’t stop talking about and recommending the game. GW2 is only been out a week but I think it’s safe to say that it is here to stay!!!
