Recently I need to hard reset a Samsung Captivate or Samsung Galaxy as it’s more commonly known. All the directions found online were incorrect. All the sites I found tell you to hold the volume down button and then press and release the power button. This is incorrect and does not work. You actually need to hold both the volume up and down buttons and then press and release the power button.
Here is how you hard reset or factory reset a Samsung Captivate
- Power off your Samsung Captivate, if it is frozen, pull the battery out and put it back.
- Hold the Volume Down and Volume up Buttons at the same time
- Press and release the Power button
- You should see a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, and Clear Storage
- Use the Volume Down button to select clear storage.
- Press and release the Power button
- Confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO
