Anyone else think that the new iPad Mini is horribly overpriced? Before I go my rant about how disappointed I am by Apples price point of $329 for the starter model iPad Mini,
let’s talk about the specs.
The iPad mini has a 7.9 – inch IPS display, is 7.2mm thick and weighs 0.68 pounds. The iPad Mini will come in both black and white as expected. The iPad Mini has a display
resolution of 1024 x 768 which is the same display resolution as the iPad. This is good news for developers. The new iPad Mini will be powered by a dual-core A5 processor.
Included will also be a front-facing HD FaceTime camera and a 5 megapixel back camera. The iPad Mini is said to have a 10 hour battery life and support 4G LTE and of course it
will use the new lightning connector as does the new iPhone 5.
Pre-orders for the new iPad Mini will start Friday and will be officially available on November 2nd.
The iPad is a great product and there is no denying that Apple has been the front runner in the tablet market and honestly continues to dominate the market, especially when we talk
about education and ibooks.
BUT……!!
I have to say that I’m and incredibly disappointed in the new iPad Mini’s price point. $329 is a horrible starting price for a 7 inch tablet that is WiFi only.
AM I RIGHT?
Now don’t get me wrong. I am a fan of Apple products. I’m using a Macbook pro right now as I type up this post. I also think that the new iMac looks amazing.
With that said I still think that this was a bad move by Apple.
Will they sell a crap ton of iPad Mini’s? I’m sure they will. I just happen to think that the Nexus 7 for $199 is a much better buy. The Nexus 7 is just as powerful if not more powerful and
has a lot to offer for a much more reasonable price point. I was really excited about this product and as I was watching it unfold on the Apple keynote I was getting more and more excited.
I still think the iPad Mini is a great product. I’m just not willing to pay over $300 for one.
What do you think?
Do you think Apple is way overpriced here? Or am I in the wrong?

I agree. Have we not seen this all many times before? In six months the “new” ipad mini will be obsolete. They will release a new version with a retina display and more powerful processor, maybe with siri. In the meantime, they will rake in the profits on this and today’s buyers will have buyers remorse soon. Only fools or die hard disciples, in my opinion, ever buy a first rendition of any Apple product. Look at the ipad, a 4th generation is on it’s way in less than six months after the 3rd. That is Apple’s strategy. Leave out features they can add in the next model and charge more money for. I have a Nexus 7 and it is great. But Apple has the integration of itunes, photos, etc. and that counts for a lot with some people. Thanks, Steve
Great comment Steve, I agree
You can’t compare the nexus 7 to any iPad not even the 1st gen one. It’s a totally different product then an iPad. The apps make the product and then you’ll see the iPad is the true winner.
Have you ever used the browser on an android device, it truly sucks compared to what iOS has to offer
I also agree with you. Apple application store is still the best, however I’m noticing more and more that gap being closed by android
I was really excited when I heard about the iPad Mini but I have to say leaving off the 3/4G and the high price point made this Apple lover want to cry. It seems there are new products being released faster and at higher starting price points. That is one positive about the ‘other’ guys when they release new products it seems as though the price points go down. What about the new Surface that I’ve seen advertised? I could see that getting a mini makeover and being serious competition for the iPad Mini
